This unit is located on the lower floor, opposite the Radiology Department, and includes the following sections: Admission, Result Delivery, Sampling, Pathology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Hematology, Biochemistry, Serology, Serum Separation, Washing Room, Rest Room, and Storage Room.

The Pathobiology Laboratory of Azerbaijan Super-Specialty Hospital is equipped with advanced devices and staffed by experienced specialists and laboratory experts. It provides the following specialized services to esteemed patients 24 hours a day, every day:

• Emergency services for all routine tests
• Home sampling for elderly and disabled individuals
• Rapid and daily reporting of cardiac tests, troponin, pregnancy hormones, and thyroid panel while maintaining the required quality standards

It should be noted that all tests and laboratory equipment have identification records and operating instructions available in the relevant sections. The accuracy and reliability of the results from this center are continuously monitored and evaluated by the reputable Quality Control Institute of the Reference Laboratory of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

Specialized services include:

• All virology tests
• All immunology tests

• Purchase of a Mini Vidas device for performing hormonal and specialized tests to accelerate result delivery
• Frozen section device for rapid diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors during surgery

The Laboratory Unit of Azerbaijan Hospital consists of distinct yet interconnected sections, including:

Admission Section:

• Patients are admitted here, and necessary information and guidance—both verbal and written—regarding test conditions and procedures are provided to visitors.

Result Delivery Section:

• Once results are ready, patients receive their reports in the shortest possible time.

Sampling Section:

• Patient samples are collected here, labeled, and the containers are handed over to the patients.

Storage Room:

• Consumable items and requests from various sections are stockpiled for a three-month period and delivered weekly to the sections according to their requests.

Washing Room:

• Washing and sterilization of instruments are performed in this room.
• Equipment includes a Foor device (operating instructions and quality control forms are available in the section).
• An autoclave is also available for sterilization (operating instructions and quality control forms are present in this section and the Microbiology section).

Microbiology and Urinalysis Section:

Equipment includes:

• Incubator to provide the required temperature for microorganism growth
• Microscope for examination of microorganisms, cells, etc.
• Operating instructions and quality control forms for these devices are available in the section.

Tests performed in this section include:

• U/A, U/C, S.G, OB, OP
• WOND/CUL, FLUID/CUL, PLURAL/CUL, CSF/CUL
• SPUTUM/CUL, TROTH/CUL, URET/CUL
• VAG/CUL, NOSE/CUL, TRACH/CUL

Hematology Section:

• Behdad water bath (WATER BATH 2006)
• Behdad centrifuge and rotator
• Microscope for cell examination and counting
• STAGO coagulometer

Biochemistry Section:

• FBS, BS, BUN, CREA, U.A, ALT, AST, CA, PHOS, BIL-T, BIL-D
• ALB, AMY-L, FE, LDH, HDL, CK-MB, ALP, MG, TIBC, LACTATE
• NA, K, PRO, TG, CHOL, CPK, SGOT, SGPT, LDL, GGT
• U/PRO and all specialized biochemistry tests

Blood Bank Section:

• Serofuge and centrifuge
• Water bath
• Plasma freezer
• Blood bank refrigerator

Tests performed in this section include:

• CROSS MATCH, B.G, DIRECT COOMBS, INDIRECT COOMBS
• Antibody screening

Serum Separation Section:

Equipment includes:

• Centrifuge
• Water bath

In this section, samples are separated and placed in racks designated for each department.

ELISA and Serology Section:

Equipment includes:

• MINDRAY ELISA reader
• Behdad rotator

• TROPONIN, BHCG/Tit, D.DIMER, HBS/Ag/AB, HCV.AB
• HIV.AB, CRP, CRP/qua, RF (latex), RPR
• VDRL, WIDAL, WRITE, 2ME, ASO
• MONO TEST, TSH, T3, T4, FT3, FT4, T3/UP, DIGOXIN, VITAMIN D3, FTI, FERRITIN

Pathology Section:

Equipment includes:

• Microtome for cutting samples and preparing slides
• Frozen section device for rapid freezing of samples to prepare quick slides
• Tissue processor for sample processing
• Tissue floating bath for flattening tissue after cutting
• Behdad foor device for tissue dehydration
• Performs CISH tests (the only center in the province offering this service)
• Performs IHC tests (the only center in the province offering this service)
